In 2001, Titouan set off on a solo trip around the world with his sketchbooks, his bag of gouaches, and a camera slung across his shoulder. Seven years later, the exhibition-concept Femmes du monde opened at the Musée de l’Homme. Over the years, Titouan’s work, namely his photographic work, has evolved and become significantly more sophisticated.
The development of the book, the exhibition and its production, required the skills of many specialists, from graphic artists and designers, via photo labs, to craftspeople who made the exhibition’s original furnishings.
Through Blessing, one of the “Women of the World,” Titouan Lamazou unveils how he works and answers all the questions that one might ask… Why this country rather than another? How do you choose your models? What happens during your work sessions? What materials do you use?
Histoire d'une exposition recounts the atypical adventure of an atypical artist.
During the three months taken to set up the exhibition, Didier Léger (founder of the photo lab Imaginoir, printer of photos for Sief, Sarah Moon, Depardon, Lindbergh… and Titouan in the last fifteen years) produced a daily black-and-white photo report, offering a visual thread for the book, enhanced by previously unseen works by Titouan and photos illustrating the evolution of his photographic work in the last fifteen years.
Vincent Beaurin, curator and scenographer of the exhibition Femmes du monde, explains the intellectual approach which steered the exhibition’s scenography and the different stages of the concept’s evolution.
